SECOND ANNUAL HARVEST FEST
Sodus Central School Grounds
The Sodus Chamber of Commerce is inviting you to join us for our second annual Harvest FEST to be held on October 3, 2009. Many local organizations are joining us in this event as they did last year including the local churches and organizations and the school. Numerous plans are already underway including a pumpkin, watermelon and sun flower growing contest, Harvest Dessert baking contest with youth and adult divisions, a “Hats and Jammies” parade for kids of all ages along with antique tractors and a fire truck or two; also there will be a farmer’s market sponsored by the Sodus Methodist Church. The Pumpkin Drop (from 75 ft up in the air) is being brought back by very popular demand!
We are looking for arts and crafts vendors, plus any business or organization that would like to participate. Food vendors are welcomed but we reserve the right to limit what types of food are sold to avoid duplications. (The Masons will be cooking salt potatoes, clams and sweet corn, the Booster Club will be doing hot dogs and hamburgs, Sodus Methodist Churches will be selling homemade soup and chili and Sodus Presbyterians will be doing apple crisp, coffee and hot chocolate).
Vendors will be located at the Sodus Central School (Mill Street in the Village of Sodus) on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. rain or shine. The spaces are 10 x 10" for $35.00 or a 10 x 20" for $50.00, there is a 10% discount for repeat vendors from last year or a 10% discount for Sodus Chamber of Commerce members. If fee is paid by 8/1/09 there is a $5.00 discount as well. Vendors would be responsible for their own tents, chairs, tables, etc.

It's time to get growing! The Sodus Chamber of Commerce will again host the second annual Harvest Fest on October 3 and they are looking for the biggest pumpkins, watermelons and sunflowers. In order to help things along, Grandpa's Nursery in Sodus, DeFisher's Greenhouses and the Country Hardware will give you two free "Atlantic Giant" pumpkins seeds if you bring in the ad and spend $10.00. Quantities are limited so hurry. If growing gigantic pumpkins is more than you want to take on, the Chamber will also be judging "Big" ones that weigh less than 100 pounds. A youth division plus the adult (13 years and older) will be able to win first, second and third place ribbons with pumpkins, watermelons or sunflowers.
Other plans for Harvest Fest, that will be held on Sodus Central School grounds, include a baking contest for adult and youth divisions with ribbons awarded. The "Hats and Jammies" parade will let kids of all ages strut their stuff in their pajamas; and if they want to make a silly hat then that's all the better. There will also be fire trucks, antique tractors and more. Sodus Central school kids will be participating in all sorts of ways such as bike races, music and other demonstrations that are still in the planning stages.
Vendor applications are being taken for just about anything. Last year's vendors had lots of food like warm apple crisp and homemade soup, not to mention the kettle corn. The lawn and garden tractors display was also big hit. The Sodus Methodist Church is again handling the farmer's market portion.
