**********
It was a fine, fair weekend for a Faire in 2007:

Could we be setting a new record this summer of 2007?  Once again we were blessed with another weekend chock-full of events and no rain! The Sodus Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Great Sodus Bay Association to provide a family fun-filled weekend, and no one missed last year’s torrential rains and hurricane-like winds. The annual Pet Parade, hosted by Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven (www.crackerboxpalace.org) on Friday night kicked off the event, and it was the best-attended ever. Dozens of kids and their pets were dressed in all kinds of costumes, with Moms and Dads making last-minute alterations before they strutted down Main Street in the Village of Sodus.  Leading the parade was the beautiful “Noah’s Ark” mural painted by the Sodus High School Art Club in 2006 for the Cracker Box Palace farm, followed by every shape and size of pet:  hamsters, guinea pigs, and bunnies were pulled in little wagons, safely tucked away in their cages.  Perhaps the most unusual pets were from the Gates family:  two White’s Tree Frogs were lovingly carried by Joey Gates in a small plastic box that had just enough water to make sure they were comfortable; Amber held her tiny Water Dragon Lizard and Rebecca made sure their Pomeranian-Poodle “Little Bear” supervised the rest of the family’s pets during the parade.  There were Yorkies and Labs and everything in between, all in wonderfully creative costumes.  Cracker Box Palace’s horses were a real treat for everyone.  Brewster, a Belgian new to the farm made his debut pulling a wagon full of farm staff and volunteers.  Walt Roloson and Elaine Vanderzille drove Bucky, a Welsh pony cross, and farm volunteer Katie Schneider did a great job in a sulky driving Spit, the farm’s beloved Shetland pony; Katie has only driven Spit a handful of times and definitely is on her way to becoming an expert!
The SCS Board of Education busily filled dishes heaping with ice cream sundaes while the “main event” was being staged in the street…the Golden Wheelbarrow competition!  Three-person teams representing Curves, Reliant Community Credit Union, the Town of Sodus, Village of Sodus, Sodus Town Ambulance Corps, and Rascals paced around their wheelbarrows and planned their strategy.  The format was for one person, blindfolded, to ride in the wheelbarrow while two others pushed.  They raced down Main Street, having to stop and have the blindfolded rider pick marbles from three dishes; what the riders didn’t know was that the dishes were also filled with whipped cream, spaghetti, and seaweed!  Yuck!  After capturing their marbles they raced to the finish line, where they turned the relay over to another team to race back.  Team STAC and Team Rascals out-wheeled the rest of the field to claim the Golden Wheelbarrow trophy. The Sodus Chamber raffled off a surround system, which was won by Amber Curtis, and Daniale Brown won a Radio/CD Player.
A sea of colorful tents covered Oscar Fuerst Field in Sodus Point on Saturday at the Olde Tyme Country Faire.  Dozens of vendors had displays of everything from beautiful nature photographs to sandals that stuck to the bottom of your feet to feathery dream-catchers and handmade jewelry.  Delicious aromas from the many food vendors filled the air.  Both the Great Sodus Bay Association and Sodus Chamber had loads of raffle items along with cash raffles, and winners included Shirley Hurley, Jennie Sedore, Val Burditt, Debra Gallagher, Ruth Olschewski, Nancy Fiorentino, Bob Herman, Steve Bates, and Judy DuBois.
A big thank you goes to the Great Sodus Bay Association and the Sodus Chamber for their efforts in putting the Faire together and bringing so many visitors to the Sodus area!
